KO-COON Baby Kimono — gown meets sleeping bag, with cuff mittens
The clever kimono giving parents an alternative to swaddling.
We've just launched a NEW sleepwear design that keeps your baby's arms and legs covered and free to move.
Swaddling has long been the default for settling newborns, but not every baby likes it and not every parent wants to wrap. KO-COON's new Kimono answers that with a single garment that borrows from two classics: the sleeves of a baby gown and the open, free-moving bottom of a sleeping bag.
The result is a design that covers your baby's arms and torso while leaving the legs free to kick. Babies who dislike having their arms pinned and parents who prefer not to swaddle, get warmth and a sense of being dressed without the restriction.
"So many babies and moms prefer to have the arms and legs free instead of swaddling," says our founder Alina Warner. "This design gives the best of both worlds — sleeves to keep the arms warm, and an open bottom so the legs can move, but baby is still covered."
The Kimono is made from cotton interlock double knit, a breathable fabric chosen so babies don't overheat. We chose it to work across seasons: worn over just a nappy in summer, layered over a vest or babygrow in winter, or slipped inside a sleeveless sleeping bag on the coldest nights. Fold-over cuff mittens keep little hands warm and guard against face scratches, and snap poppers make dressing and nappy changes quick — without pulling anything over a newborn's head.
Each Kimono is handmade in Cape Town. It comes in one size which works from premature to six months, in six colours: milky white, fudge, blossom pink, sky blue, grey marl and navy.
